Beyond Disruption: The Power of Yes
Over the last 25 years, I’ve learned that the most powerful decisions we make are the ones where we say yes—to new experiences, to unexpected opportunities, and to challenges that don’t always look the way we expect. In my last post, Embrace Disruption, I talked about growth that comes from disruption—sometimes the kind we chase, and sometimes the kind that shows up when we’d rather avoid it.
Here’s the truth: the things that challenge or scare you could be the very things that offer you the greatest opportunity for personal growth and reinvention. Fear of failure, fear of judgment, and the fear of stepping away from what’s comfortable often keep people stuck. I know this because I’ve lived it. Leaving an industry where I was not only financially secure but also at the top of my game was terrifying. Moving from healthcare into new ventures wasn’t a leap; it was a calculated risk filled with both founded and unfounded fears. But growth and reinvention don’t happen when you’re comfortable. They happen when you step into discomfort.
My career transition was only part of the story. I’ve faced the physical and mental challenges of triathlon racing after a debilitating injury, and I’ve successfully run a ranch and homestead without any prior experience. Each of these moments taught me something crucial: stepping into the unknown is always scary, but it’s where the magic happens. Help is often closer than you think. We underestimate how many people are willing to support and guide those facing the same challenges they once did.
Saying yes isn’t about being reckless or overcommitting. It’s about recognizing when something aligns with your vision and has the potential to move you forward. It’s also about choosing to undivide yourself—to bring together the different parts of who you are, the different experiences you’ve had, and reintegrate them into a more authentic, whole version of yourself. Ask yourself: Does this challenge push me toward the person I want to become? Does it help me grow? If the answer is yes, then lean into it. Don’t hold back.
And that quiet voice inside—the one that whispers, “Wouldn’t that be amazing?”—that’s not just a thought. That’s your soul speaking. Listen to it.
In my next post, we’ll dig into those limiting beliefs that hold you back and keep you stuck in self-doubt. It’s time to start breaking through and integrating all the parts of yourself to move forward.
